Hello, my name is Kristina, The Illuminator of Luz Negra.
A few years ago, I heard someone that the “jewel”, the amulet, was the first object not necessary for survial that human beings created in prehistory. Times change, but the big questions remain unanswered.
My first ring was made in an artisan workshop in Chiapas, Mexico, during a long trip trough North America. Years before, I had gotten a degree in Fine Arts at UPV Bilbo and upon my return, I completed the upper cycle of artistic jewelry at the Escola Industrial de Barcelona. Art, history and anthropology inspire my creative path. I also confess that I would not be who I am now without my community, punk, the eternal nights of dancing and the power of the rebellious people with whom I have walked.
At 36 years old, I feel it is now the moment to give myself completely to this project and to communicate with the world through it. “Exvoto” is Luz Negra’s first collection, inspired by symbols and mysteries, created with a team of multidisciplinary artists whom I admire. All the pieces are designed and created by me, using traditional techniques, between Barcelona (my adopted city) and my house-workshop in the mountains of Euskal Herria. Every piece is unique and different, each with it’s small imperfections, and contains part of my soul and a lot of my time.
Jewelry can tell stories and be ritual tools for living bodies that redifine them. THANK YOU for accompanying me on the adventure.
